One out of every three teens experience some form of abuse in their romantic relationships, including physical, verbal and emotional abuse. Jewish teens are no exception. Such an alarming statistic confirms the importance of early education, prevention and intervention targeted at teens and young adults.

In a Healthy Relationship:

• You feel good about yourself
• You're comfortable and able to speak your mind
• There's a strong sense of friendship and trust
• You're respected, supported and feel safe
• There's a balance of power - you're treated as an equal
• You feel strong - both on your own and as a partner

If you are afraid or uncomfortable in your relationship:

• Write it down: Document behaviour that concerns you in a journal and stash it in a private place
• Talk it out: Learn all you can about dating relationship issues and don't hesitate to ask for help for a counsellor, doctor or local social service agency.
• Think ahead: Develop a safety plan, even if you're not in immediate danger. If your physical safety is being threatened, call 911.

When Push Comes to Shove....It's No Longer Love is a short film that portrays the stories of real people who have courageously shared their experiences as a way of educating other young people about the insidious nature of abuse, its subtelties and its various manifestations.

The film is an excellent vehicle for teenagers - there is a study guide that accompanies the film and it is a peer-presented, interactive program.
